WHAT IS  KUNDALINI YOGA?

Kundalini Yoga (as taught by Yogi Bhajan, my Teacher) is a practice, which strengthens the body, calms the mind and awakens the radiance of the soul.  I both practice and teach this wonderful art with deep joy and gratitude.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Kundalini Yoga is an ancient human technology from India that uses a combination of breathing, movement, chanting, relaxation and meditation to help us live in grace and harmony, from our creativity and divintiy.

Technically, it balances the chakra system and awakens the kundalini energy, the creative flow of Infinity that lies at the base of the spine.  It gently allows for the divine radiance of the soul, the spark of God that lives inside each and every huemanbeing, to rise and shine.

Physically it stimulates and balances the Glandular system, which is responsible for our overall state of well-being.  It works on the lymph system, the nervous system, the immune system, the musculo-skeletal system and the pranic body supporting us to be strong, vital, healthy , sharp and filled with radiant energy.

Through the meditation and chanting, we develop a relationship to the mind, so instead of becoming the slave of our own negative thought patterns, we can guide the mind to serve our soul.  The use of sound balances the brain and re-patterns unhealthy thought patterns allowing for layers of doubt and neurosis to peel away, revealing the stillness and love within.  The practice of meditation and breath awareness is extremely practical for our day to day life.  What is the one thing that never shuts off and is our constant companion?  …The Mind!! So we better learn how to develop a healthy relationship with our own thoughts and mastery of the mind.

Kundalini Yoga is the yoga of awareness, giving us an experience of reality. When our awareness is awakened, we have the capacity for self mastery.  This practice assists in experiencing truth directly through the self rather than relying on something or someone outside of us for it.

Also, music and chanting is the backbone of this practice. It is a great thing for music lovers, musicians, and other types of performing artists (This does not mean you need to “have a good voice” or be a musician, it awakens the voice within you!)  There is a wealth of unique, beautiful and fun musical recordings of these sacred mantras and songs.  If you would like to listen to more KY music visit www.spiritvoyage.com       back to top

WHERE DID IT COME FROM?

Kundalini Yoga is an ancient practice from India that is known as a Raj Yog, or Royal Yoga.  It was a secret art passed down through Royalty and other spiritual elite because of it’s power.  In the old age, the Age of Pisces, those in power did not want common people to know the truth of their direct connection to the Divine (hence our creation of Hiarchy in religion). However, now that we are moving into a New Age, the Age of Aquarius, it is time for this powerful Yoga to be accessible to all people who feel it’s energy.

In the late 60’s, a great man named Yogi Bhajan (Master of Kundalini Yoga) felt the call of destiny to bring this Yoga to the west and share it with the world.  It was said that anyone who taught Kundalini Yoga openly would die within a year, but he took his chances and followed the voice of his soul.  And of course, he did not die, but lived and taught and created teachers of this beautiful art for many years to come.  Yogi Bhajan recently passed in 2004, leaving behind the non-profit group called 3HO (the Happy, Healthy, Holy organization) which cares for and spreads the technology and teachings of Kundalini Yoga all over the world.

CAN ANYONE DO KUNDALINI YOGA?

Yes!
Kundalini Yoga is for everyone regardless of age, faith, physical ability or gender.

You don’t need to be in good shape or flexible to do this, you adjust to what your body needs and challenge yourself in your own way. It is really more about the grace and meditative space that is revealed in a Kundalini Yoga class, and this affects every single person in the room☺

The best thing is to try it for yourself! Come and try one of Bachan Kaur’s classes or find a class near you .
